Paper Orchestra Project

The Paper Orchestra Project is a cross-discipline outreach program designed to engage younger elementary students in the magic of music making. Each student builds his or her own, faux string instrument out of paper mache. In the process, the students learn the parts of the instrument and how all those parts come together to make music. While the students have a terrific time working with paper mache, they simultaneously learn about string instruments and their technique. This gives students a taste for how music is produced, a step from merely listening to music to being informed about how music is actually made. The Paper Orchestra Project often sparks further interest in children to actually learn to play a musical instrument.

Participation in this project is recommended prior to students joining Eastport Strings.
